Bring Back Richard Farleigh

The UK's favourite Dragon

Newsflash

You may be wondering why the 'polite Australian one' is no longer part of the Dragons' Den panel. So are we. We have started a petition to bring back Richard Farleigh. Lets make those silly people at the BBC change their minds and let Richard return to the panel.

**** PETITION BACK ONLINE DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND  ****

SIGN IT NOW

It turns out that the guy who contacted me about creating a new Richard Farleigh site was indeed Richard Farleigh's PA. My initial proposal was rejected because they wanted the website done for free - something I didn't know at the time. I thought this was fair enough given the chance to work with the great Mr Farleigh so I said I'd be prepared to do it for free. At this point there wasn't much time left so with the few hours I had I put this site together...

I admit that it looks a little formal and could do with some prettifying but in my opinion it's better than the '80s birthday party girly pink mincey' effort they went with instead...

Anyway, no point in being bitter. At least now I can tell my grandchildren 'I almost got to nearly create Richard Farleigh's website for free but was beaten by a girly pink website instead!'

Life!

LE FIN

It's time to put the petition to bed. I've had fun maintaining this site but there is no more I can do. I wrote to the BBC about getting Richard back on but they just replied with some diplomatic response which roughly went 'we listen to all our viewers comments and we will pass your request to our review committee blah blah blah'... So basically, it doesn't look like Mr Farleigh will be returning to the Den ever. Sorry folks!

The exciting moment (which was more than likely a hoax)

I was supposed to keep this quiet but as it looks like nothing more will come of it, I can let you know that I was contacted by Richard Farleigh. Well almost. I was actually contacted by a guy called Leo Skagerlind who said he was Richard's PA. The story goes that Richard liked what I'd done with this site and was wondering whether I would like to get involved in creating a new Richard Farleigh site. I never actually spoke to Richard himself so I suspect the whole thing was just a hoax but it was exciting for a brief moment. I made a whole proposal about what features would go on the new website and other ideas to help improve Richard's online profile. We exchanged emails and calls for a while and then... then there was nothing. I would have loved to have run Farliegh's website but it wasn't to be.

People

It's amazing how when you record a video of yourself people can get quite aggressive towards you. I made this site purely as a fun exercise and to see if I could actually get the Farleigh back on the Den (quite frankly now it's pretty dull) but a surprising number of people saw fit to have a go at me personally. From a 10 minute video people came to the conclusion that I was a dope smoking, posh, unemployed, student (and those were just the polite insults). Actually it's quite the opposite but hey. I guess I did look a little relaxed on the video and maybe I pronounced a few too many end consonants and I do have long hair but I never thought people would even think to spend their time actually writing insults. There were plenty of nice people along the way too so overall it was a worthwile experience.

The petition and forum have been locked now to prevent spam entries but you can still read through them to get an idea of the types of things people had to say about Richard Farleigh.

Our website recently appeared on the Wright Stuff on Channel 5. Turns out Richard had seen our site already. Perhaps the person who signed the petition as Richard Farleigh was indeed Richard Farleigh! Richard, if you are reading this get in touch to say hi. I also have a couple of business ideas to pass on to you from people who visited the site. One sounds too good to be true (although as usual the guy is convinced he has something big) and the other sounds very interesting indeed!

I recently discovered that the BBC had dropped Richard Farleigh from the Dragons' Den. I found this strange as most people I asked put Richard Farleigh as their favourite Dragon.

Nobody seems to know the real reason why he was dropped. From what I have read, Richard seemed keen to continue with the show. He even moved back to London to keep up with the show's commitments. Some of the papers have suggested Richard was dropped so that a Dragon from an ethnic minority could be added to the panel. Others have suggested that Richard was just too nice! Perhaps he wasn't nasty enough for TV. I thought this is exactly what made him a nice contrast to the other Dragons. He was always polite and gave great advice even if he wasn't going to invest. Often when you think of top businessmen, you think of a ruthless person with a huge ego. Richard seems to have made his money by using his intelligence and somehow managed to remain a decent chap.

Richard didn't deserve to be dropped. Bring him back!
